I created Fixing Flawed Research Questions as training unit for college students employed as course-embedded consultants (peer tutors) in first-year research-based writing courses by their university’s writing center. The writing center uses the Google suite of platforms throughout its professional development program; Fixing Flawed Research Questions uses a combination of Google Slides and Google Forms and demonstrates a low/no-cost option for creating in-house training on a budget.
The instructions as presented to learners, instructional design documentation (Morrison, Ross and Kemp Model) that guided development, and evaluation documentation (Kirkpatrick Model) are embedded below. The version of the module included here reflects changes made based upon that evaluation; for example, I added the option for course-embedded consultants to explain their question rewrites and edited a few of the example flawed/viable questions.
